About Misa

Born in Tokyo and raised in the United States and Kamakura, Misa Sugiyama began pursuing music professionally after graduating from Keio University and working for an international company.

In 2011, she made her major-label debut with the album Will Love through Pony Canyon. “Flame,” an original song from the album, was featured as the ending theme for the TV Asahi program Beat Takeshi’s TV Tackle.

In 2015, she received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music, where she studied composition and arranging. She graduated with Highest Honors in 2018. She later worked as a songwriter and recording engineer while continuing to write, arrange, and produce her own music.

A singer-songwriter deeply influenced by jazz, she creates music that combines expressive vocals, original songwriting, and sophisticated arrangements. Drawing on her experiences in Japan, the United States, and Indonesia, she works across live performance, songwriting, arranging, and music production.

She has performed internationally at venues and festivals including Birdland in New York and the Java Jazz Festival. In 2025, she was invited to perform for an official meeting between the President of Indonesia and the former Prime Minister of Japan.

In 2026, she released her five-track EP, Midnight Echo.
